Harry
R. J. Hill Harry R. J. Hill 66, a long time resident of
Geneva, died Thursday, October 1, 2009 at Delnor
Hospital in Geneva, surrounded by his loving wife and
family. He was born September 21, 1943 in Geneva, the
son of Wallace and Evelyn (O'Connor) Hill. Following
graduation from Geneva High School, Harry served in the
United States Navy and was honorably discharged. After
receiving his degree in Criminology, he was a Sergeant
with the Kane County Sheriff's Department, ending his
career as Director of Civil Process, retiring after 28
years. His second retirement came after 7 years with
Elgin Beverage Company in Elgin. He enjoyed many sports
activities such as snowmobiling, motorcycling, boating
and flying. He had a real zest for life. Harry will be
deeply missed by his family and all who have had the
privilege of knowing him. He is survived by his beloved
wife of 40 years, Mary; his loving children, Phyllis
(Robert) Chesnut of Geneva, Denise (Joe) Kulba of
McHenry, Deborah (Paul) Erickson of Crystal Lake,
Bernadine (Kurt) Matthews of St. Charles, Edward (Mary)
Hill of Aurora, Jeanette Bonvini of Maple Park and Jon
Hill of Indianapolis, IN; 11 grandchildren; three
great-grandchildren with another great-grandchild
expected in February; and his brother, Wally (Judy) Hill
of New York. Harry was preceded in death by his parents.
A visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. on
Sunday, October 4, 2009 followed by a celebration
service of Harry's life at 2: 00 P.M. at the Norris
Funeral Home, 100 South Third Street, (3 blocks west of
the Fox River and 1 block south of Route 64) St.
Charles. Private interment will be at Riverhills
Memorial Park in Batavia. Contributions in Harry's
memory may be made to the American Lung Association, 55
West Wacker Drrive, Suite 800, Oakbrook Terrace, IL
60601.

Sgt. Edward J. Ufland, 62 of Elgin passed away Sunday,
February 1, 2009 at Provena St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin.
He was born June 17, 1946 in Elgin the son of Fred H.
and Alice Belshan Ufland.
He had been a resident of Elgin all of his life. He had
been employed by the City of Elgin as a police officer
for more than 38 years, serving the last five years as
sergeant before retiring in 2002.
He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Elgin.
He was a member of the Blue Knights, The Loyal Order of
Moose Lodge 799, Elgin and the Elgin Riverside Club.
Surviving are his wife, Sandra Holtz Ufland; his two
daughters, Tasha Ufland and Hope Ann Ufland both of
South Elgin; seven grandchildren; and his sister, Carol
Young of Elgin; as well as many friends whom became his
extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother and
fellow Elgin Policeman, Fred J. Ufland; and his
stepmother, Adeline Ufland.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday,
February 5, at Wait Ross Allanson Funeral & Cremation
Services Chapel, Elgin with Rev. Roger Pollock
officiating.
Burial will be private. Visitation will be held on
Thursday, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., in the funeral
home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the family.
